I think about urban trails as archives with history, ideology, and materiality. They mark, in one certain configuation, a period of time and are often the making or cause of human intervention. This photo was a part of a series that I made to apply for a Milwaukee County art residency. Even though I didn’t end up getting the residency, this started a more extensive curiosity and research on urban trails. This work also helped me get an residency a few years later, which allowed me to work with conservation organizations in creating meaningful work and dialog around urban ecology.
